Wayne Robert Zimmer 3/23/47 - 11/11/05
Wayne R. Zimmer, age 58, formerly of Greece, NY, died suddenly Friday, November 11, 2005.
Wayne was born in Rochester, NY on March 23, 1947. He married Nancy J. McAllister on July 13, 1974. He is survived by wife, Nancy McAllister Zimmer of Ossian, NY; daughters, Jamie Zimmer of Rochester, NY and Aimee (Timothy J.) Mann of Dansville; mother, Gertrude Zimmer of Rochester; grandchildren, Devin Rookey-Zimmer and Taylor J. Mann; sisters, Virginia Zimmer of Holley, NY and Carol (Jon Carlberg) Zimmer of Irondequoit, NY; brother-in-law, James (Ray) McAllister Sr.; nephews, James R. (Jane Ludlow) McAllister Jr.; and great-nephew, Kyle R. McAllister, all of Wilmington, DE.
Wayne was the owner/operator of American Wildlife Control, Inc. A retired deputy chief of the Kodak Fire Dept., vice president of NYS Wildlife Management Assn. (NYSWMA), National Trappers Assn. (life member), National Wildlife Control Operators Assn. (NWCOA), founder of the Rochester Rec Divers SCUBA Club, exempt member of the North Greece Fire Dept., presently a member of Phoenix Lodge #115 F&M in Dansville.
He was also a hunter education mentor, DEC instructor, member of Region Eight North Instructors Assn. (RENIA), member of the Genesee Valley & NYS Trappers Assn. (life member), a member of Livingston County and Dansville Chambers of Commerce and NRA.
He was certified by the National Goose Management Training Academy and certified by Purdue University in Trapper Training. Most recently, a Cub Scout Leader for Pack #71 of Dansville.
Wayne is a Purple Heart Recipient who served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division and later became an Army Ranger. He also received the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one silver Service Star and one bronze Service Star.
